Forget the maps, follow your instincts that will lead you to our historic streamline moderne 1920’s building.  A home away from home for a weekend get-away, a short stay, or an extended stay.  Enjoy the City of Long Beach with local dining, shopping and perhaps a bike ride along the beach.  Located in the heart of the East Village Arts District and within walking distance to the Convention Center, Aquarium of the Pacific, Shoreline Village and Downtown.

Constructed in 1922 the building was first known as Metropolitan Apartments which included a produce market on the first floor. As the result of the 1933 earthquake, the original building facade was damaged and the majority of the building had to be demolished. Local architect W. Horace Austin was hired to design the new modern facade. In keeping with the modern design trend of the 1930’s, he chose Streamline Moderne. This style of architecture was popular in Long Beach along Art Deco.
The building embodies many of the distinctive characteristics associated with Streamline Moderne. The style structure retains a level of integrity and several original features including original bays, many of the original windows, “speedline” inspired horizontal banding and original fire escapes.
Recently, the building was approved as an adaptive reuse project known as “The Hotel Metropolitan” and designated as a historic local landmark and is undergoing many historic preservation projects.
